Important Information for Visitors to NNS…
All visitors to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) must submit a completed NN9327 to their sponsoring department prior to arrival. Hardcopy forms will not be accepted at the NNS Access Center.
Access to NNS may be requested for up to two years provided the individual has a background investigation and contract/purchase order# valid through the requested date.
First-time visitors are required to present:
Proof of Identification
- Driver’s license or any other identification card issued by federal, state, or local government that contains a photography and the person’s name, date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and street address
Proof of US Citizenship
- U.S. birth certificate (birth documents issued by a hospital, notifications of birth registrations; and Puerto Rico birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 are not accepted
- Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
- U.S. Certificate of Citizenship or Certificate of Naturalization
- A record of Military Processing-Armed forces of the United States (Form DD 1966), provided it reflects U.S. citizenship
Proof of Background Investigation Completion
- Required for all unescorted visits and for visitors who have already been issued their one-time by escort badge
- Background investigations will only be accepted from backgroundchecks.com
- Certificate must be presented for each badge renewal
Note: A REAL ID compliant driver’s license can only be used as proof of identity. It does not satisfy the citizenship requirement. Copies or images on electronic devices are not accepted.
An 18 minute safety video is required every 365 days for visitors requesting unescorted access. Please allow time for viewing if needed.
Paid parking is available at the Alright Parking lot next to the Access Center
- Do not park in the reserved spaces across the street from the Access Center – towing is enforced.

Lost or forgotten badges will be replaced for a fee at the Access Center
All NNS badge holders must do the following:
- Display their ID Badge at all times while on NNS premises. Remove ID Badge from plain sight when not on NNS property
- Ensure the NNS badge is not photographed, photocopied, or otherwise reproduced
- Ensure their badge is not used by anyone other than the person to whom it is issued
- Safeguard the NNS badge and promptly report any lost or misused badge to the SCC at (757) 380-4031.
